Sheldon specialises in offering good space during the summer months, with plenty to choose from. There are two clergy family holiday weeks in early August. These are ideal for families in ministry who want the hassle-free option of having all food provided, low-key fun activities in the evening, and the best that Devon has to offer to explore during the day. Private retreats are available for people who want to quietly do their own thing.R5 weeks (read, retreat, rest, relax, recuperate) are popular for those who prefer to mix their quiet time with some social contact over meals. The programme also includes led retreats and workshops plus volunteering opportunities.
Sheldon has 45 acres of grounds, chapels, a library and a labyrinth. All rooms are en-suite and single people are never asked to share. Somewhat surprisingly there is also an open air theatre where concerts are staged for 6 nights in July – the one time when the place is anything but quiet! Sheldon is home to a resident lay Community who welcome all the guests. And of course the Community has a long tradition of offering specialist resources available for people in ministry going through times of stress, crisis, burnout or breakdown, including a confidential online forum launched in 2015.
