Faith comes into play in cricket

BARONESS SCOTLAND led the teams out last Friday as she unveiled the new Commonwealth Secretariat initiative ‘Peace at the Crease’.

The home of English cricket, Lord’s, was the venue for the match between The Vatican (St Peter’s) and the Archbishop of Canterbury’s joint XI cricket team versus an inter-faith team featuring members of the Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist and Jewish faiths.

Baroness Scotland said that the new initiative aims to use the popularity of cricket as tool in peace building and community development efforts across the Commonwealth.

Central to the initiative will be a series of special exhibition matches bringing together participants from diverse faith and cultural backgrounds to contest the Commonwealth Cricket Cup.
