Steve Morris is well known to readers of The Church of England Newspaper. In ‘Our Precious Lives’ (Authentic) he calls on the church to reclaim the art of story telling that was so prominent in he ministry of Jesus. Steve Morris shares as number of interesting stories from his own pastoral ministry. Alister McGrath, who has recently written a book on narrative apologetics, contributes a preface in which he says that this book is ‘the best manifesto I have read for story telling as apologetics.’ He adds ‘it will enrich the spiritual lives of ordinary Christians’. Not to be missed.

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower so expect quite a few books and articles to mark this event. First off the mark is Stephen Tomkins with ‘The Journey to the Mayflower” (SPCK). Tomkins sketches the background in Elizabethan England and the development of separatism among Puritans who felt church reform had not gone far enough. This is a story of English history as well as of a foundational event in American history.

Alister McGrath is another critic of Dawkins who has scored many hits. He has the advantage of a scientific as well as a theological training. In ‘A Theory of Everything (That Matters)’ (Hodder) he provides a guide to Einstein and Relativity and their relationship to the Christian faith. He discusses Einstein’s own faith, arguing that although he did not believe in a personal God he was not an atheist.
